I reside on the stolen ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh sníchim speaking peoples, part of the Salish Language family with a history dating back millennia.
I am of Hakkah/Ke-Jia Chinese ancestry. My parents immigrated to Turtle Island in 1984 from Brunei and Malaysia, where my grandparents fled to when seeking refuge after World War II. My younger sister and I were born on Treaty 6 Territory, known as Edmonton. Sharing my family's ancestry allows me to connect to the history of colonization and understand how it led my ancestors to become uninvited guests on Turtle Island.
